I am the head of the Anti-Leader League, follow me You will see that we've got all that we need but it's going to cost us, so please dig deep for the Anti-Leader League I am the king of the Kids for Change Brigade, we've got it made Because we know only kids can show the way With just a little guidance so they don't go astray The kids for change brigade Oh I will sacrifice my time just take a badge and stand in line and let me show them you can shine I'll strike a blow against the world economy No need to bow before the market's tyranny And if you buy my pamphlet I'm sure you will agree It's only four pound seventy Oh I'll defend the weak who cannot fight I'll write a song for women'd rights If you will sleep with me tonight You're great, oh let me see your natural state the only way to liberate but you could stand to lose some weight You like our style and we can swear we'll never stop Cos we've been told that we're the next big thing in pop and if we tone it down some we could reach the top So we'll keep going till we drop.

Lie Easy 03:45
Morning goes ponderously by on boots made of lead Thundery and ominous the sky is filling my head and I need this storm to burst, violently Ease the pressure in my bones And no-one is ever as they seem in this place Figures are swallowed in the green, I can't see the faces or hear the whispered words, splintering leaves and branches, roots and stems Lady, I deserted you even though I promised to be true promised you and then ran away Creeping across continents One day you will whisper in my ear "Your heart is opening, lie easy "Stay here, you have no choice, lie easy, "This is your resting place, lie easy here, "You're in the jungle to stay!" Ten years and many miles away I think I'm okay Sodium and neon light the way, night turns to day and routine's a sword and shield, comforting, Guard against the life we knew But cracks in the calendar appear and memory shines through evenings in Puerto Maldonado, South-East Peru and you're there before my eyes, beckoning Reaching out with leaves of green Lady, I deserted you even though I promised to be true promised you and then ran away Creeping across continents One day you will whisper in my ear "Your heart is opening, lie easy "Stay here, you have no choice, lie easy, "This is your resting place, lie easy here, "You're in the jungle to stay here "You have no choice, lie easy "Creepers around your limbs, lie easy, "This is your resting place, lie easy here, "You're in the jungle to stay!" Lady I deserted you even though I promised to be true Promised you and then ran away Crashing across continents one day you will holler in my ear "Lie easy! "Stay here you have no choice, lie easy "Creepers around your heart, lie easy here, "You're in the jungle to stay."

Love-15 02:56
Well it was love-15 at the start of the day because I hadn't swept the floor or put the washing away I had to gain some ground, had to gain it fast so I recalled an anniversary that you'd let pass Well the look in your eyes said you couldn't be beat and then you breast-fed the baby and I couldn't compete And things we used to do for love, now we do for advantage long ago we spoke as one now it's a different language As we walked down the road I took your arm so the world could bask in my selfless charm When our friends came round you wouldn't get off my knee and when tempers flared it got blamed on me Well I wrote you a song about how I feel and you fought right back with a three course meal Andf things we used to do for love now we do for advantage long ago we spoke as one now it's a different language But once in a while we both call time put down our weapons, shake hands on the line and your eyes, your smiling eyes meet mine and I like that, I like that fine.

Our God is good is what you said as you dragged me to Kirk He’s with you in your daily play and in my life and work If God’s sae good, why did he tak’ the very stuff you are and leave you like the guttering flame on a candle in a jar? For forty years you lived as one you pair gave life to me You brought me up to worship Him the point I couldnae see My Feyther’s house you tramped around in row ‘pon row ‘pon row Not knowing why you poured the tea and my cup overflowed You gave your time, you gave your soul You gave your energy You gave belief in that good God and a wider family But did they care? Ach, did they hell Your true friends could be seen And as the mist swirled through your mind good God became a dream The small domestic tragedies, tsunamis, famines, war It’s said they’re sent to test our faith My faith’s been tested sore Why should a feyther treat his weans as if he didnae care? A loving god would stop the pain, I think he isnae there He’s vanished in thin air Or he doesnae really care.

Susi sees angels, here and there Magical creatures are everywhere Well I canny see them, I try and look twice I kind of regret that - it must be nice, but I think Why should I personify my sense of wonder, sense of wonder Laugh beneath a starlit sky with my sense of wonder, my sense of wonder Ewan sees reason in everything Knows you can measure pieces of string and he is my brother, I love and respect And proof of the other we’ve never found yet, but I think Why should I categorize my sense of wonder, sense of wonder Laugh beneath a starlit sky with my sense of wonder, my sense of wonder And I salute you, one and all, who’ve seen the light, who’ve heard a call I’ll not dispute what you have seen I’m just not certain what you mean Susi’s a human, as sweet as can be And magic or not she’s amazing to me And whether we’re born here blessed or alone I hope that her angels will see her home But still think Why should I personify my sense of wonder, sense of wonder Laugh beneath a starlit sky with my sense of wonder, my sense of wonder Why should I categorize my sense of wonder, my sense of wonder Laugh beneath a starlit sky with my sense of wonder, my sense of wonder My sense of wonder.

Global Scale 03:44
I was doing my recycling there in the pouring rain chasing bits of paper that had dropped and blown away Pushing empty bottles in an overflowing bin Jumping at the buzzing of the bees and flies within Sorting out the cardboard from the empty cans of pop When a great big BMW came skidding to a stop right there There appeared a suited man, a grin from ear to ear “You think you’re doing good, my friend,” he told me with a sneer “But really the environment is out of your control “When the Indians and the Chinese use a billion tonnes of coal “And countries use resources like they’re going out of style “So your poxy little efforts here can only make me smile “I’m thinking on a global scale, on a global scale, “It ain’t no crime “To think upon a global scale, on a global scale, “Don’t waste your time!” I tried to shake him off and so I headed down the street I had to buy some coffee, tea and chocolate for a treat I always check the labels just to see where things are made And I try and buy organic and I try and buy fair-trade But as I cast my eye across the supermarket shelf Who should rear his head but BMW himself, right there “You poor, deluded fool,” he said, “you canny make a dent; “The folks that you are helping, they’re, like, 0.1 per cent “Money makes the world go round whatever you may buy “And you canny make a difference so you may as well not try “market economics trump your conscience every time, “And look - I’m buying Nestle and I get along just fine! “I’m thinking on a global scale, on a global scale, “It ain’t no crime “To think upon a global scale, on a global scale, “Don’t waste your time!” I said, “My friend, your thoughtful words have cut me to the quick, “You’ve shown that I’ve been acting like a sentimental prick “How foolish and how gullible to try and do my bit “When the world is full of millions who couldny give a shit “And since you’ve been so thoughtful as to show me what is true “Well, I have a proposition that is specially for you, just you. “The Congolese, Iraqis, Afghans, Sudanese and more “Are slaughtering each other in an endless global war “And governments will subsidise the peddlers of death “Who sit back and count the fortune made from every dying breath “So, though I’d call for peace, it won’t do any good at all “And it won’t make any difference if I boot you in the balls “I’m thinking on a global scale, on a global scale, “Is that what you mean? “Thinking on a global scale, on a global scale, “You don’t seem too keen! “Thinking on a global scale, on a global scale, “It’s not my job “To think upon a global scale, on a global scale, “So kindly shut yer gob.”

Well, it’s funny how quickly things change What seems certain goes fast out of range and it’s hard not to wonder just who was to blame As if that makes a difference at all Things get broken - that, we all know You can cry or think “Where should I go?” There is always someone with a light that’ll show And a heart that could cushion your fall Here comes the cavalry, the army of friends To judge and advise you on justified ends To hell with the horses, to hell with the men You’re putting yourself back together again Well there’s love and there’s lust and there’s sex One thing one day is not that the next When we’re not messing up, well we’re trying our best It’s a wonder we’ve lasted so long You can fret over games that were played And regret the mistakes that were made But this crap from the past will just stand in you way you’ve a life to be lived, right or wrong Here comes the cavalry, the army of friends To judge and advise you on justified ends To hell with the horses, to hell with the men You’re putting yourself back together again So things may be awkward here and there, now Disapproving glances, icy stares now Got to wonder why you’d even care, now, Life is waiting Here comes the cavalry, the army of friends To judge and advise you on justified ends To hell with the horses, to hell with the men You’re putting yourself back together again

Below the shakkin’ briggie, the bonnie Dee rumbles and remembers a mystery wait, wait - the water’s freezing and the river’s in spate don’t go, don’t go swimming down below the shakkin’ briggie, this time of year broken-hearted Mary, she disappeared gone, gone, for want of loving from her faithless John they say she lies waiting down below the shakkin’ briggie the waters dark canny still the beating of her jealous heart rage, rage, the jilted woman has a war to wage you fool, don’t go swimming down below.

Well it wasn’t much fun being a flower in the 60s, Picked and plucked by a bunch of old hippies to decorate their technicolour nonsense as you withered up And whatever you think about the cloud-blown kisses, the smiles, the styles and the noble wishes, image fought with substance and it kicked her in the shin And do you really think that your mother and I would be far better people if we still got high? If we walked around baring bums and bits If we tried to make lasagne tripping off our tits? And not much wanting to do your homework does not constitute a political statement nor does agonising over what your mate meant when he said you were square So you can turn down Dylan and the Grateful Dead and come and help me do the washing up instead remember, I saw Hendrix play when he was alive and I can still get your dinner on the table for half past five And so I cut my hair and I shaved my moustache, it’s not a sure sign that I became a fascist If you really want to give peace a chance why don’t you shut your face and help me water the plants Cos it wasn’t much fun being a flower in the 60s picked and plucked by a bunch of old hippies to decorate their technicolour nonsense as you withered up and died.

He scribbles in the corner of a smoky, crowded room when suddenly, beside him, she steps out of the gloom He tells her he’s a poet and poets need regret She grins and tells him, “Baby, you’re lucky that we met! “Cos I could be your tragedy “I could light that fuse “I could give you such agony, “I’ll give you something you can use!” Well he drops his little notebook and leaves it where it lies skewered on her beauty and the madness in her eyes His heart begins to tumble, his head begins to spin he says, “Whatever you were thinking, you can count me in! “Cos you could be my fantasy “You could be my muse, “You could give me such ecstasy “You’ll give me something I can use!” But he can’t see signals she is sending, got his head in the sand He thinks he’s in for a happy ending - where’s the poetry in that? Well she ties him to the bedpost and cuts him till he bleeds And she drags him round the country like a dog upon a lead But then as quickly as she came there he wakes to find her gone And now he howls at her absence in the murky early dawn “You have caused me such misery, “Cruelty and abuse, “You have crushed my humanity, “But gave me something I can use!” Now he curses her existence and he murders her in rhyme but though she dies in every poem, she lives in every line.

Poor Soul 04:01
In the garden, there you stand, As still as any stone With a trowel in your hand And a heart that’s all alone You’ve been digging up the weeds But still they grow back in As in your heart there grows the need To fill the void within Poor soul, anyone can see you’re hurting Gazing to the stars Hold on, only thing we know for certain is here we are First comes Adam, then comes Jack They’re knocking on your door With an information pack And the promise of much more Well presented, so polite And still behind their eyes They will lead you to the light And guard you from the lies Poor soul, anyone can see you’re hurting Gazing to the stars Hold on, only thing we know for certain is here we are And your sadness is a landing light for those who claim the keys They will salvage you with good and right and bring you to your knees Anyone can spin a yarn of things we can’t conceive Some do good and some do harm and all are make-believe On your own or with a guide you’ll find your way somehow Well here’s a song to hold inside - we love you, here and now Poor soul, anyone can see you’re hurting Gazing to the stars Hold on, only thing we know for certain is here we are

It’s raining cobwebs, stretching hours Into refracted gossamer showers Space invaders, struggle onwards Records winding ever downwards Time is bending moving slowly Pool balls melting, snooker holy All the drinkers are talking Slovak Head translating all the small talk Lights are pulsing time is bending silent faces message sending It’s raining cobwebs, stretching hours Into refracted gossamer showers

I like wonder and I like tradition when taught for what it is I’m not so keen on folks without permission trying to sell stuff to my kids Well okay it’s important history, the last 2,000 years But tens of thousands more of total mystery, has that just disappeared? There’s folks who’ll try to tell you that religion’s a thing you can’t attack If I’m a statue baby they’re the pigeons who shit all down my back Cos my choice to draw my own conclusions was stalled on a Sunday more An image branded by an institution and it gets you from the day you’re born and it follows you Hey boy, don’t kid yourself you might think you’ve got away But we’re gonna find you wherever you run to and we don’t need your faith cos when we’re inside your head we’re there to stay I seek a country where the past can’t hurt you and no-one plays that game Try and cultivate a life of virtue not built on guilt and shame But each time I think I’ve got it mastered, my own clear path to see Who blocks my path but that big bearded bastard, saying Hey, remember me, did you think I’d gone? Hey boy, don’t kid yourself you might think you’ve got away, but I’m gonna find you wherever you run to and I don’t need your faith cos when I’m inside your head I’m there to stay.

Spiral Away 04:46
Time to re-think the self image again boyfriend to husband to daddy and then the babies to boys and the boys into men We’ll watch it all spiral away Heart tries to grasp what the hand can’t control I’ll take this confusion deep into my soul then I crawl to Newcastle with a sack-full of coal and watch it all spiral away Three times I call your name Fourth time you hear me Come confusion can’t complain I love you dearly Shadows appear when you walk in the light You find out what’s wrong just by doing what’s right It seems kind of pointless but still we all fight To watch it all spiral away Yes I have loved you, yes I have lost Yes I have wished that our paths never crossed But I will stay with you whatever the cost and watch it all spiral away Three times I call your name Fourth time you hear me Come confusion can’t complain I love you dearly Beaten and hurt and abandoned until You swear it’s the last time life gets you, but still You’re rolling that boulder right back up the hill to watch it all spiral away Look for the truth but the truth doesn’t tell You’re still where you landed the last time you fell But people with answers are boring as hell So watch it all spiral away.
